Sweets are currency

Sweet - almost like currency, if the small vendor does not have enough small change they will give you a sweet instead of the change. It's a bit confusing the first time, Hanoi Vietnam

You might be surprised when you get given a ‘sweet’ as change — I was!

I just looked at it in my hand trying to fathom it out and wondered if somehow I asked for it. But no, if the seller doesn’t have the correct change they just give you a sweet.

It makes perfect sense really.
