As a person who has traveled extensively since I was 16, and then living in Asia for 14 years and married to a Japanese lad, I have always had my most memorable experiences engaging with locals in usually funny events or ones that culture shock kicked and I was left shaking my head wondering what had just happened.
For me the most important thing to remember is that there is good people everywhere and it is amazing how a simple smile can communicate and connect with others, that is easy and no study required.
Like any new country there is so much to learn when one walks into a foreign land.
Culture shock can come up and bite us when we are not looking and the thought that crossing anyone’s mind when they travel is . . .. oh no what now ?? . . . . . where is the airport.
