This is another touchy subject for people. Actually before I came to Asia for some strange reason I thought that the cock fights were fought to their death !!??
Where I got that from, I am not sure, but that’s what I thought was true. Now I know it is more like a round of wrestling or boxing, it is based on points per round, so much more of a humane sport that I could imagine.
Even though I had this strange idea, when I heard there was cock fighting going to be held for a festival in the streets behind our house while living near Trúc Bạch Lake- so I just had to go, risk it even if I had to run away home screaming and crying I thought it was worth a look.
With the idea in the back of my mind, that one spot of blood I was out of there.

Well I was there for hours, couldn’t get enough of it and even went back the next day. I must admit that there were few women watching, so the men just looked at me strangely for a minute then went back to business at hand, which was either tending to their birds or trying to make some money.

If you know the rules you can bet on each round. Each bird is weighed so they fight against another bird in their weight range.

The owners of these birds really love them, probably more than their wives, but that is another story that is too dangerous to get into.

The way you see them preening them, carrying and holding them. It is love for the bird or love for how much money the bird can make for them. They are treated like we treat a race horse I would imagine.
Cock Fighting – All snuggled up !! Luxury travel arrangements thank you in a woven bag. As these birds are valuable assets to the owner so are well looked after. OR alternative way is just to tuck the chicken under your arm and effortlessly carry your bird around with ease. Cock patiently waiting for his turn.
