Ummm cat lovers like me don’t really like this subject, but the fact is, Vietnamese are known to eat cat meat. Another thing to get over; and a great reason for me to get a dose of culture shock.

It is only our emotional connection to cats that goes against the grain when we think of people eating cats. We think this because we have domesticated cats, they live in our houses, they sleep in our beds, but for people who don’t do this, it is ok to eat a cat.

Like when people eat beef, if we treated cows the same way as we treat cats we probably would have the same feeling. It could be tricky sleeping with a cow on our bed, but that is just a minor detail compared to the idea that I am trying to get across.

Saying this, if you are moving to Hanoi as an expatriate, you might reconsider taking your Fluffy with you, as if Fluffy gets out, he might find himself on someone’s dinner table !!
