In 2010 Hanoi and the whole of Vietnam was warming up for the biggest event to hit town for 1,000 years.
On the 10th of the 10th 2010 (10-10-2010) the historic city of Hanoi celebrated their 1000 year History. At that time you would see the name Thang Long being used often as it is the old name for Hanoi
The city got spruced up to prepare for the visitors who have booked to come and join in the celebrations.
Vietnamese from all around the country flocked to the city to experience this celebration.
The government planned this event for years, lots of events happening through the whole year and in the 10 days from the 01st of October to the 10th of October with the grand finale event.
From my side, I am so happy to launch a book as part of the 1,000 year celebrations – Weird and WOW Hanoi celebrates the 1,000 year epic journey of Hanoi, Vietnam.
The city was feeling very festive for months before; a big screen that counts down from 1,000 days to the 10th of October 2010, is clicking down day by day was situated on a v-shaped small park where Đinh Tiên Hoàng Street and Hàng Dầu Streets.

To mark this auspicious occasion in history by showing signage and congratulations from companies etc is something to be remembered.
Much public works was in progress, but putting that aside as only a temporary inconvenience we can celebrate the intention and where the city is heading for.

Frommers the travel guide people, put Hanoi onto their Top Destinations list for 2010. All good reasons for this include that it is an authentic location, culturally rich, great food and nightlife with a cool art gallery scene and lots of funky boutiques.
